Letter from Chairperson

Dear New Student,

Please allow me to introduce myself; I am Angelo Lim, Orientation Chairperson 2014 and Vice President of Student Government Association. On behalf of the entire Orientation Team and the Office of Student Activities & Co-curricular Programs (N308), I would like to welcome you as a new member of our campus community. My experiences at Saint Joseph’s College have afforded me limitless opportunities and growth both academically and socially. I have made lifelong friendships and memories. I am hopeful you will enrich your own college experience by taking advantage of all that SJC has to offer and I encourage you to explore every opportunity for personal and professional growth. I hope you are excited as I am for your college career to begin! Although transition may be difficult, we are here to accompany you as you set aside your fears and embrace this exciting new journey with an open mind.

Our orientation leaders are anxiously awaiting your arrival. For the last two months, we have been busy preparing for what we believe will be the most engaging and dynamic orientation to date. Beyond orientation day, there are many on campus events that encourage your attendance and participation and will allow you to become familiar with our entire campus community. Please mark your calendar with the dates listed below and be sure to check our weekly electronic newsletter (“The Jotter”) for upcoming events and activities.

What to expect at Orientation on August 26:
On Orientation Day, after a short welcome in the Pless Performing Arts Center (auditorium), you will be directed to a classroom with your assigned group. This session will allow you to get to know your FYE/SJC-100 classmates while learning about events and activities on campus. Your FYE class (Freshman Year Experience) meets once weekly during fall semester and has been designed to assist freshmen with transition from high school to college life, while providing each student with tools/resources necessary to get the most out of his/her SJC experience. Your classroom session will be followed by fun filled activities and opportunities for you to visit the campus bookstore take a last minute campus tour, meet some of our staff and faculty, and more!

So much awaits you here at St. Joseph’s College and I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm and experience with you. I believe you will find, as our orientation theme suggests, that we are truly A League of Our Own. If you are willing to step outside your comfort zone, putting your fears and doubts aside, you will soon discover that an exciting freshman year is on the horizon. This is just the beginning. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to meeting you!
