Letter from Chairperson

Dear Incoming Student,

I am Bryan Antonoff, vice president of the Student Government Association and chairman for the Freshman Orientation program this year. On behalf of the orientation team, the Office of Student Activities and Co-Curricular Programs, and everyone else at St. Joseph’s College, I would like to welcome you as a new student and a new member of our campus community!

My time at St. Joseph’s College has given me so many different opportunities to learn more about myself and to grow, and I hope that you will be able to enrich your college experience in the same way. Remember, four years goes by incredibly quickly, so take full advantage of your time here while you can. I hope you are as excited as we are for your college career to begin! The transition may be a bit difficult, but you will not be alone; you will have many people to guide you along on the start of your new journey.

Each of our orientation leaders is eagerly awaiting your arrival; we have all been busy getting ready for your orientation day. We promise that it will be engaging, exciting and exhilarating, so be sure to come with an open mind! The fun doesn’t stop on orientation day, though; there are many different events planned throughout the year for you to enjoy. We encourage you to attend and participate at each of these events, as they will allow you to form bonds within our community and engage in the various programs offered here at SJC. Please mark your calendars with the following dates:

  • Freshman Orientation — Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at 8 a.m.
  • Parent Orientation — Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 6 p.m. (Parents only)
  • First Day of Classes! — Monday, August 31, 2015
  • Welcome Back BBQ — Wednesday, September 2, 2015, Common Hour (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • Club Fair — Wednesday, September 9, 2015, Common Hour (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • Investiture — Friday, September 18, 2015, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • C.A.B. Evening Social — Friday, September 25, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Freshman Orientation on August 25 will allow you to begin making connections with other SJC students and to meet your FYE/SJC-100 class before the first day of the semester. Your FYE (Freshman Year Experience) class will meet once each week during the Fall Semester, and was designed to help new students smoothly transition to life as a college student.

There is so much in store for you at St. Joseph’s College, and I look forward to seeing how far you will go here. Each of our new students is unique, and each will add so much to our community as time goes on. During your time at SJC, you will learn that our community is truly, as stated by our theme, Unique, but United. I have one bit of advice for you: step out of your comfort zone! If you put your fears, doubts, and anxieties aside, you will be able to see exactly what lies ahead of you for the next few years. This is where it all begins. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and arrive at Freshman Orientation ready to go. I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Bryan Antonoff
